ZenBuild's PDF to Word tool extracts text and structure from PDF documents into editable .docx files. Choose between text mode (best for most documents) and layout mode (for complex formatting).
Open the PDF to Word tool and upload your file by dragging it onto the drop area or clicking to browse. The tool loads the document and shows the page count and file details.

Select your conversion mode: Text mode extracts text content with basic formatting — headings, paragraphs, tables, and lists. This works best for most documents. Layout mode attempts to preserve the visual layout more precisely, which is useful for documents with complex multi-column formatting.

Click Convert and download the resulting .docx file. Open it in Word, Google Docs, or any compatible editor to review and make your changes. Some manual formatting adjustments may be needed depending on the complexity of the original PDF.

Reduce PDF file size without losing quality. Perfect for email attachments and faster uploads.
Text mode extracts content as flowing text with basic formatting (headings, bold, tables). Layout mode tries to preserve the visual position of elements on the page. Text mode produces more editable output; layout mode is better for visual fidelity.
The tool works best with text-based PDFs (where text was typed, not scanned). Scanned documents are essentially images, so text extraction is limited without OCR.
PDF and Word use fundamentally different formatting models, so some differences are expected. Simple documents convert very well. Complex layouts with multiple columns, headers/footers, or embedded graphics may need manual adjustment.
